From Weight-Loss to Running; Fitness Journey of a Busy Mama to 3

Thankful Thursday!

Let's see this week I'm thankful for,.......REST!!

As a military spouse with a sailor currently 2 months into a LONG deployment AND busy mama to 3 girls; mix in the DAILY duties, squeezing in workouts, and other randomness, it just doesn't happen much. Like, many other military wives, we get it when we can, we keep on keeping on.

Lately, I've been hit with sickness, it doesn't happen often. Today, I FINALLY went into to base medical along with Ailea. Turns out I have a viral infection, with fluid behind the ear and dehydration. Strange, huh? I thought I was drinking enough water, I load up in the evenings but doc said I need it MORE, especially as a notorious coffee drinker. Whoops!! So, I got a few meds to help with the congestion. This sickness had me limited, hardly any workouts, I didn't get some of the cleaning projects done so far, just the bare minimum.

I've RESTED as much as I can, in between the daily duties, I threw my body on the couch and stayed!! I've taken my booty to bed, EARLY, to REST. I've caught up on reading. The EARLY routine to bed for REST, even has me falling asleep EARLIER. And, although I've been RESTING, I've still felt crummy, but I'm RESTING. So, I'm thankful that I do listen to my body MORE and get REST when I need it the most. It does drive me crazy though because I'm always on the GO, GO, GO!!! My mind is always racing to this and that...and I've got a LOT on my plate. Yesterday, I did sneak in a workout & run, I felt great and took advantage. Today, is a different story, I woke up sounding horrible. I don't plan to jump into it until I am at least 100%. I have too much going on, on Saturday, we have a Disney on Ice show!! SUPER EXCITED, our first time!!! Ooookay, let me get off the PC, to get some REST during naptime.

in sickness & in health...

I've been trying to lay "low" to kick this sickness out of my system.  I pushed myself on Monday for an elliptical workout & November [daily] challenge. And, I've been struggling since then. Yesterdays severe headache had me limited, pushed through the morning school madness but took it easy at home. It's mostly allergy-related but those headaches are NO JOKE, and my voice is all scratchy! Booo!! I even received the TURBOFIRE package but it was stuck, since the mail key wasn't working.

TODAY was up & down. UNTIL, I received a knock at the door and there it was, TURBOFIRE!!

I was EXCITED!! I wanted to jump into it immediately but waited....until naptime. Haha. Even, Ailea and Serena were excited to see what was in the package. I just wanted to "see", I quickly changed into workout gear and laced up my shoes. BOOM!! Just like that, I did DAY 1!! Whoooaaaaaa, she was something else. I'm the least coordinated person you will ever meet. And, that was my BIGGEST challenge, not the workout, keeping up with the fast, intense, moving routine. I LOVE the kickboxing aspect, surprisingly the squats didn't cause knee pain; YAYYY!!! I was SWEATING by the end of it. I'm REALLY liking that woman, she is spunky, the music was good, the workout was killer! I won't kick off the program until I complete my last few weeks of Les Mills Pump!! And, the last few weeks aren't as intense, sooo, that works with kicking this current sickness I have going in. 90 days is still pretty intimidating. There's no turning back now!!

I was so PUMPED from Turbofire, that I wanted to get out for some 'stennis miles'.
So, right after Serena woke up from naptime, they snacked and then we headed out to the gym. I was pushing it close because Leanna was due to be off school soon. My first mile went pretty fast, 10:32, but then I noticed a little someone had climbed on the furniture. STOP. And, then back to it, I started off slower, lost my momentum and just gave it an easy go. It was also my FIRST time in running shorts outside the house. And, running in them. Different. They held up, there was still some 'jiggle' but I didn't mind it. I still got my run on.
Finished Strong at 2 Miles in 22:40

Tuesday Tunes

This week, I can't seem to get enough of this song...
it makes smile, makes me sing along, makes me bop my head,
makes me dance, makes me want a beer, don't judge..
....MMmm...motorboating...
And, I do in fact workout to country music.
Yeahh, it's mellow but I love it!

What song is on replay for you this week?

*cough, cough*

I don't get sick often but when I do, I feel it coming on days before it actually hits.
And, I felt it last week...I took it 'easy' when I could but still couldn't escape it.
Then baby girls started showing symptoms; coughing & runny noses.

So, when I woke up today, I was feeling horrible, kept pushing through it.
Still got dressed in my running gear and laced up my running shoes. Yes, I was set.
As soon as Leanna was off to school, I ran a quick errand before coming back home.
Once, at home, I realized I was NOT going to have a good run, so instead I stayed home.
I jumped onto the elliptical, while the girls watched a new [favorite] movie.
Great thing about this, I forgot how quick of a BURN you feel  on the elliptical.
Logged in 2.31 'stennis miles' in 35:00. Nice & Slow Burning.

Then I dropped down to the ground for the November [Daily] Challenge;

Plank 1:16
Push Ups 26
Tricep Dips 37

Now, to rest up, gloomy [rainy] Washington days are my favorite kinds of days.
Stay away sunshine!!
I love the Pacific Northwest. LOVE IT!

Mama on the go-go-go

It's 10:30 on a Sunday & I should probably be sleeping.

We had a fabulous fun-filled busy weekend.
First weekend in November is done!

Saturday, this Mama doesn't sleep in, she goes running!!
If I want to reach 615 miles before end of deployment,
I must keep moving, errr....running!
Slipped into my running tights, laced up my running shoes,
and got my 3 girls ready for the gym.
Squeezed in some super sweaty 'stennis miles'

My time is improving since September.
I did the plank-a-day challenge then too.

I ended up taking a LONG shift 3:45-11:00.
WHEW!! My feet were aching!!
I can't express how Thankful I am for awesome friends.
Especially during a deployment; fabulous support.
I say it often, I tell them often.

November [Daily] Challenge!

Are you ready for a daily burn on top of the other fabulous fitness routines you have going on?!?! You got it; Get busy with these 3 basic moves! You can do these 3 exercises ANYWHERE!! I have taken it outdoors with the picnic tables, bench, I've used the BOSU or Body Ball, my couch, chair, be creative when you can. Yes, you can do that, even with exercises.  Make sure you keep GOOD FORM with each exercise and repetition, it makes a HUGE difference! Even, if you have to stop to correct yourself.

Here it goes!
Planks; How long can hold it? In any variation because there are SO many. I kept entertained with a 'walking' plank today (a move from Les Mills Pump); Challenge Yourself! Check out this site for a list of plank variations, awesome challenge & works the body too. And, here's another good plank post.

Push ups; I'm currently using the push-up app, if you don't have it. Do as many push-up as you can for the plank time you just did. WOW! Here's a few different push up variations, you can chose from, you can modify them, you can use equipment with them like a body ball, BOSU, bench, couch; Challenge Yourself. And, here's another great push up post.

Tricep Dips; Use that plank time again and go for it!! Tricep dips can be done anywhere with practically anything, outdoors using a bench, indoors with a chair/body ball, couch or just your body; Challenge Yourself. Ouch!! Here's some info on what tricep dips do and form.

Whewww, I bet you are feeling a good BURN!! Way to go!!
